“DASH stands for Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension. This meal plan, the DASH diet, pretty much is promoting your fruits and vegetables. We’re talking about not just a little fruit and vegetable garnish, but 4-5 servings of fruits a day, 4-5 additional servings of vegetables. That’s like half your plate and then some. We’re looking at more moderate portions or it’s promoting more moderate portions of the lean proteins: fish, chicken, seafood. And by moderate portions, we’re talking about 6 ounces or less for most people per day. I think it’s for anybody who is wanting to prevent chronic disease because it’s going to help treat the high blood pressure, it’s going to help improve insulin sensitivity. I think it’s a meal plan that’s great for moms who are trying to provide healthy balanced meals, and they can be quick using your basic foods. It’s using real foods. What DASH means to me is just quick, easy, simple, and it’s something that anyone can do.”
